Who are the Wizards?
FIRST Tech Challenge Team #9794, Wizards.exe, began in the season of 2015-16, led by Coach Pankaj Oberoi. Now entering the sixth season, Wizards.exe is formed by seven students; four boys and three girls, aged 13 to 17, from three schools; Montgomery Blair High School, Marriot Ridge High School, and Robert Frost Middle School. The team is located in Rockville, Maryland. In the rookie season of Wizards.exe, the team attended competitions across the Super East Region in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Through their successes, they were able to qualify and compete at the World Championship where they were ranked in the top 50 percent. In their second year, the Wizards strived for Inspire, ascertaining the 1st inspire in Delaware and 2nd at the East Super Regional attended the World Championship for the second time, making the quarter-finals. In their third year, Wizards.exe won 1st place Inspire at the Eastern Pennsylvania Qualifier, the Delaware State Championships, the East Super Regionals, and the World Championships! They were Winning Alliance Captain at Maryland States and a member of the Winning Alliance at the East Super Regional. Last season, Wizards.exe won 1st Place Inspire at the VA Orange County Qualifier and Maryland States. At Worlds, they were nominated as Think Award finalists and made the quarterfinals. The 2019-2020 Skystone Season was unfortunately cut short due to the COVID pandemic. For the virtual/hybrid Ultimate Goal 2020-2021, the team won the Inspire Award at Maryland States and our mentor/alumni Sarthak Bhatnagar won the Compass Award at the FTC Virtual Season Celebration. In the 2021-2022 Freight Frenzy Season, the team won the Inspire Award at the Chesapeake Championships in Hampton Virginia, advancing them to the World Championships in Houston, Texas. There, they were finalists for the Design Award.
Holding true to the mission of FIRST, Wizards.exe consistently perseveres in efforts to inspire other students to participate in more such STEM activities. Team #9794 values community outreach and has integrated FIRST in the Montgomery County environment by hosting robotics events at elementary and middle school science fairs, showcasing team achievements to the Montgomery County Council, and mentoring/supporting new and developing younger teams among various other outreach events.
